-Stacy McCain reports on a Ron Paul supporter in Wisconsin challenging Willard M. Romney on Mormon Doctrine. He and I have both predicted that the Left will begin to do this when and if Willard is the Nominee, but it’s interesting that it’s the Paulbots who are getting this line of attack rolling. Stacy comments:
Those Republicans who have joined the “Roll Over for Romney” movement, asserting that Mitt is not only “inevitable” as the nominee but also the most “electable” of the GOP candidates, will likely get a brutal lesson in absolute ruthlessness, as the Left will not hesitate to exploit religious bigotry when it suits their purposes.
And those Republicans will just sit there and whine about it.
As for me, I’m going to laugh my arse off — and so will Andrew Breitbart up there.
-The fact that Sarah Palin did not enter the race for the GOP Nomination made a very many conservatives [including myself] sad and angry. Sad because she would have galvanized the Right like no one else, especially one the Left and the GOP Establishment began hurling vicious calumnies at her. Angry because we knew a major reason she decided not to make the run was for the sake of her family who have been through the ringer constantly over the past four years.
As far as many of us were concerned, this would have been the perfect time for Mrs. Palin to engage the Left in a battle to the political death.
We Palin supporters were left quite frustrated. And rightfully so. For much too long we have let the Left get away with this kind of character assassination and destruction. When have they ever really paid a price for it?
However, some of our frustration must be aimed at Mrs. Palin. She decided to spare her younger children what Bristol Palin went through — and that is understandable — but what if The Founders had thought the same way? What if John Adams had stayed practicing law and tending his farm? What if George Washington had remained a country squire? She was being asked to put her life, her fortune, and her sacred honor on the line and she said ‘no’. I am not angry, but disappointed in her.
Someone I respect has made the argument that in the late 18th Century no one would dare go after the families of The Founders in print, that whoever did so would become outcasts in Society.
That may well be true, but what this person and others fail to realize is that, unlike Mrs. Palin, John Adams, Sam Adams, George Washington, et. al. knew that if they were captured they would hang from a British rope. Also, they were the subject of vicious character assassinations that make what has happened to The Palin Family seem like mild name-calling. If any of The Founders refused to endure the vile things being heaped upon them and retired from public life, I think that would be much more understandable. But they did not.
-Someone last week, in what can only be described as a small stroke, called we conservatives ‘populists’. The good man later apologized for his error and so my Second has been sent home.
Let it be noted for the record: I have never been, nor ever will be, a Populist. Such people are whim-mongers, subject to be swayed by the emotion of the mob at a given moment. Such people want to bring about more democracy, not less like any true conservative seeks to do. Democracy is nothing but a belief in letting the majority lord it over the minority, with no checks and balances in place to restrain the masses in their periodic bouts of madness.
There has always been a Populist strain in American politics, and it has never brought about any good. [I blame Thomas Jefferson and later Andrew Jackson for encouraging the mobs. I often jokingly refer to Jefferson as a 'Pinko' in order to rile my Libertarian friends, but, when I do, I'm being a slight bit serious. In his quest to defeat the Federalists, the Sage Of Monticello employed tactics that have been used by every Leftist, such as Saul Alinsky's most famous Rule: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize, and polarize it. TJ learned well from the French Revolutionaries he strongly defended.]
But, hey, why listen to me? I have problems with some of the provisions of the Magna Carta.
-So, Marco Rubio has endorsed Willard M. Romney. I know a lot of TEA Party folks were quite disappointed to hear that news. I was surprised only in that I think Senator Rubio made a very dumb political move: he has forgotten it was those folks that got him elected. Otherwise, it was not at all shocking to me that he came out for the GOP Establishment’s man. Let us not forget he was a major player in Florida politics and is a former Speaker Of The House and you don’t rise to that position very often without being in with the in-crowd in some important kind of way.
-Almost two weeks ago, we learned that a remake of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four is going to be filmed. It will be produced by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. The project was pushed by Shepard Fairey, the perjuring Bolshe who brought us the Obama Hope Poster [PJ Media has the details and links here].
John Nolte sums up some of my feelings:
Plagiarism, lying, creating really huge posters that mesmerized millions of morons to worship a man who worships The State … whatever.
The important thing is that Fairey loves Obama and will surely turn “1984″ into a pro-fascist flick where Fox News is Big Brother and The State is the hero. What you might call a perfect Hollywood producer.
An Owellian use of Orwell. Now my brain hurts.
Take some advice from ol’ Bob: buy the John Hurt version and don’t waste any cash on what will most surely be a mutation of Mr. Orwell’s magnificent masterpiece.
